7 Paleo Thanksgiving Recipes (4 of 7) – Paleo Parsnip Mash

People love mashed potatoes. This side dish is great to accompany steak with veggies, chicken, turkey, and even fish! It is also a Thanksgiving must; no dinner table on this holiday can be without a large mashed potatoes bowl and a big plate of gravy right by its side.

Even though people love its taste, they don’t always like how it makes them feel afterwards: bloated, extra full and like you’re carrying 3 extra pounds around with you no matter what you do.

I have an easy solution for you…just don’t use potatoes for your mashed potatoes. Instead, use a vegetable! I would recommend using cauliflower or parsnips, both respond really well to spices and when mashed, look exactly like a mashed potato would. Just think of how much more nutritious this is for you and how many carbs you’ll be saving yourself, by choosing to serve a vegetable mash instead of a potato mash!

I chose parsnip this time and I am glad I did. It was fluffy and delicious. I added some Paleo Gravy on top (recipe will be out tomorrow, so be sure to visit AmazingPaleo again!) and it was a marvelous culinary experience.

  1. These look awesome! I am new to paleo, just learning more about it and have cut out wheat/sugar/carbs (except veggies, of course) and in less than a week I am feeling SO much better. I’m going from being a vegetarian for 12+ years so it’s a huuuuuge change to go Paleo for sure.
Your site has lots of great info and recipes, I can’t wait to try this as I love Parsnips. I have made cauliflower mash a couple times and it wasn’t great, but not too bad either. But I think parsnips would give it more flavour. Do you think mixing cauliflower and parsnips would taste good? Hope your thanksgiving was great, I’m from Canada so ours was over a month ago ha ha! But I am still looking forward to trying these thanksgiving recipes as I will likely use them for the xmas season.
Thanks for your wonderful blog, I’m learning so much. Looking forward to reading more!
    Cheers,

    1. Hey Dana! I am so glad you’re following the Paleo lifestyle now :). It’s the best. It took me around 1 month to get adjusted to the Paleo diet when I first started, but after that 1st month, everything worked so much better…my digestion, energy, etc. I cant wait to hear about your Paleo journey, so please keep me posted. Also, welcome to Amazing paleo! I hope I can keep providing fun recipes for you to make ;). I think that cauliflower & parsnip mash would be a good combination..try it out and let me know how it goes. Don’t forget to add tons of garlic and yummy spices to make it that much better!

  2. This is day number 2 for me on Paleo. Im only 23 and need to find a solution to loose weight and be healthy but not sacrifice having great meals. I’m hoping this is the solution ive been looking for!
